Venture into some of the most scenic nebulas in Earth's southern sky and visit ancient Guardian sites as part of the Guardians of Carina Expedition! This expedition will revisit some of the historic sites surrounding the first revelations of the Guardians in 3303, information uncovered by engineer Ram Tah, Guardian beacons, and obelisk farms amid the Eta Carina and NGC 3199 nebulas.
WHAT TO KNOW
Departure will take place from Meene on 4 April, with a mass jump from Felize Dock at a time to be determined. Commanders can optionally pick up missions from Ram Tah at both Felice Dock and Mitchell Dock before departing the system.
Waypoints along the route will include the first-discovered Guardian ruin site in Synuefe XR-H d11-102, Body 1 B, the derelict megaship Cete in Col 173 Sector LJ-F c12-0, and Guardian sites patrolled by Sentinels throughout the Synuefe region. Further out, the expedition will pass through the Statue of Liberty Nebula en route to Guardian ruins in the Eta Carina Nebula and NGC 3199 Nebula. Along the way, you'll have time to encounter spacefaring creatures, see Lagrange storm clouds, and visit long-forgotten Project Dynasty settlements.
Support for the expedition will include fleet carrier services aboard the Canonn Research Vehicle Dauntless, including a shipyard for storing your vessels, outfitting services with a stock of equipment for exploration and mining, Universal Cartographics, and Vista Genomics. Some commanders will have Fuel Limpets and Repair Limpets available; however, if for any reason you find yourself on emergency oxygen, log out to the main menu immediately and contact either the Fuel Rats or the Hull Seals.
WHAT TO BRING
- For Exploration: A detailed surface scanner, a planetary vehicle hangar, and an Artemis suit (for exobiology) are highly recommended. You'll also want a fuel scoop in case you want to explore on your own or you get separated from carrier support. A limited supply of outfitting stock will be available on the Dauntless in case you forget something in the Core Systems. An AFMU is helpful but not required unless you plan on using neutron stars to boost your jump range.
- For Mining: A refinery, limpet controllers for prospecting and mining, and one or more mining lasers. Optionally, you can also bring abrasion blasters, subsurface displacement missiles and seismic charge launchers for subsurface and deep core mining.
- For Shenanigans: Bring a combat ship, and bring a ship with a fighter hangar.
- For Cataloguing: No special equipment needed, though an SRV and ship-launched fighter can help. You'll also want to set up an account on EDAstro and bookmark the Galactic Exploration Catalog.
- To Volunteer: If you're interested in supporting the expedition, please use this Sign-Up Form. You'll be asked how much exploration experience you have and what support you plan to provide.
THIRD-PARTY UTILITIES
- SRV Survey: This utility introduces an overlay onto your screen that can help you navigate Guardian sites and track exobiological data. Scan a lifeform from your ship, and the map overlay will help you find it again after you land.
- Elite Dangerous Journal Processor: This utility can help you locate the nearest Galactic Exploration Catalog points of interest and track the value of your exploration data since your last turn-in.
- EDDiscovery: The premier exploration tool for Elite Dangerous. EDDiscovery tracks your flight logs and can synchronize your data with EDSM and Inara. You can customize its panels to provide detailed information on your current system, your scan results, and more.
